Shadow Army
With no clear notion of why, I took photos of my shadow a while ago, performed a bit of digital magic with them, then abandoned them to Google. The whole shadow idea has re-emerged once again as the USA is … Continue reading Shadow Army

Photo references. Inexplicably dark. However. Top left gives me composition, top right gives me the light, and bottom right is all about tone, weight, and wet paving stones. As always, the one cat gives me trouble and she may have … Continue reading Gardenscape with cats – patio #1 and #2

Gearing up now to begin the last lap in this undergrad painting enterprise so naturally I’m starting with my most compelling and esoteric subject matter – an overweight cat and a whole lot of leaves. It’s the colours though that … Continue reading Gardenscape with large cat
Own cat, master of the ear twitch, moves like a silk scarf. Acrylics on cartridge. Wave your #Artivive app at him and see what happens. (c) SCH 2025 Continue reading Charlie
Cataclysm is an animation of my own painting with video material and animation overlaid using PhotoDirector. The original reference photo (also mine) is of Lancing beach in one of its more apocalyptic moods. (c) SCH 2025 Continue reading Cataclysm

This piece shows the extraction and disintegration of genetic material; “ACTG; … Continue reading House #2 in the locality

November 11th and we’re a few days on with a hiatus due to an RSI (repetitive strain injury) in my left arm. Totally desk layout related but of course it affects everything I would normally do with my dominant hand or even with both hands, including painting and posting updates. Today it feels a … Continue reading New commission
10th April 2023. Drawing on Cixin Liu’s reference to van Gogh, string theory, and the reduction of the solar system to two dimensions (Death’s End: Three Body Problem series audio book 2018), this is (hopefully) going to be an exploration of Van Gogh’s approach to a cosmology he could never have seen and, for the latter part, doesn’t actually exist. It’s also in oils which I found in the bottom drawer of a stack. Bit of a first for me. Liu devotes an entire chapter to the dispassionate description of the process of becoming two dimensional. With no drama at … Continue reading Temporary home for coursework
