We’re hearing more and more about the down side of deep faking – that ability of AI to make one person look like another, to ‘place’ someone in an incriminating position or make the seem to speak words they would never use. This is different; this uses machine learning to bring together images of Dali, his voice and movements, and to generate from that a Dali that is as real as possible, talking about his own work in his own voice and words. As Hank Hime of the Dali Museum says in the commentary, people ‘want a way in’ to art and this provides a personal interface between the artist and his work.
