This is an artefact detected by bio-marker search looking for trace materials following historical observation of a planetary system in the region.

It was automatically retrieved and delivered to an inspection plate in the isolation lab.

Initial inspection suggests it is a construction, non-organic in itself but with traces.

There are signs of critical damage.

Re-aligning the inspection plate and boosting magnification shows there are protrusions that bear comparison with our own long range communication devices, and others that could be defensive.

A second re-alignment shows the remains of small partitioned areas which could be …

We are discontinuing the inspection due to the onset of unanticipated sounds emitted by the structure. These are louder than might be expected for its size.

Yes, we have it contained and we are relocating it now to a robust stasis compartment in the section of the specimen library designed for potential threats.

Initial conclusions:

This appears to be an artefactual construction, suggesting it originates with an intelligent life form.

The materials are fusions of various common elements.

There is a possible defensive mechanism in place which is triggered by movement initiated by an outside agency.

It emits high frequency sound waves which are repetitive and require analysis.

There are also markings on parts of the structure which are non-random and the image on-screen is the best we can do without sophisticated microscopy. Again, urgent analysis will be vital to informing our next actions.

In the meantime, stasis has been restored in the interests of our security and the survival, however unlikely, of the source of the bio-markers.

End of report.
